Domains Frequently Asked Questions

This is our online Domain Name Frequently Asked Questions Page. Please check back from time to time, as this and our Knowledgebase are constantly being added to.

1. How long does it take to register a domain

Domains are registered with Enom so almost immediate. We do however recommend allowing 24 hours for the successful propagation.

2. Why does my domain still show as available?

It can take some time for WHOIS records to update globally so some domain searches may still show a newly registered domain as available. Usually we recommend allowing 24-48 hours.

3. What happens to my domain towards the end of the registration period?

Before your domain expires you will be sent a renewal notice and invoice enabling you to renew your domain. You do not have to be concerned about loosing your domain and services providing the relevant charges are paid in good time.

4. Will I get a certificate proving its my domain?

Nominet no longer issue’s certificates in respect of UK domains but you can download a PDF certificate via Nominet Online Services. No certificates are issued for global domains. To check proof of ownership you can just carry a WHOIS Search.

5. Do any restrictions exist when registering a domain?

For .co.uk and global domains the following restrictions apply.
Domain names must be between 3 and 63 characters in length
Two letter domains cannot be registered even if they show as available
Spaces are not allowed at any point
You cannot start or end a domain with a “-” however fred-blogs-bikes.com is perfectly acceptable.

6. Is it possible to change the registered owner details for a domain?

Yes with Global US Domains this is straight forward. For Nominet UK domains it can be more awkward and Nominet charge £10 + VAT however this can now be actioned via Nominet Online Services.

Yes. This can be carried out via our Online Services.

UK Domains To transfer a .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.ul you will need to obtain the IPS TAG of your new host. Once we transfer the domain to a new IPS TAG we loose all administrative control over the domain. All support and admin issues will then be handled by the new company

Our charges for transferring in a domain are the same for new registration and can be found here. It’s is not neccessary to transfer in a domain in order to use our hosting servers. All that is required is for you to get your present domain provider to point your domain to our nameservers.

Always ensure your registrants email for your registered domain is valid before attempting a transfer and if in any doubt, contact us first! We do not recommend any transfers if domain renewal is imminent (within the next 14 days).

9. Help! I’m involved in a dispute over my domain name

This very rarely happens however for all domains currently offerered by Weycrest we have adopted the ICANN Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy which can be found at http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp.htm.
