ASP.NET originated from Microsoft along with classic ASP.

Although a free language, unlike PHP its closed source. meaning its not possible to change and modify the source code.

ASP, also has limitations as to what databases you can connect to with it. These are Microsoft SQL Server and Access databases. It is possible to connect to MySQL with third party components.

Classic ASP, upon which ASP.NET was based was created back in the 1990s. One point of annoyance with ASP is that Microsoft constantly releases updates to the code base, requiring developers to play “catch up” and to keep on learning the changes to components and functions which are being added.
